About the Bikesport Cycling Team

In 2004 the Ann Arbor Velo Club (AAVC) Category 2, 3 team has expanded its program. The team is now officially known as Team Bikesport/Lifetime Fitness/AAVC. The new name reflects the addition of new sponsors and a broadened focus for the team. In 2003 the team was primarily a Men’s Category 3 team. After an extremely successful 2003 season a number of team members upgraded to Category 2. The result is that full Category 2 and Category 3 teams are being fielded in 2004. The team has also added several Junior Men/Category 3 racers who will be riding in both Junior Men and Category 3 events.

The team is dedicated to several goals: rider development; the promotion of the Ann Arbor Velo Club as well as the team’s sponsors; developing positive relationships with people and communities through charitable events, programs and fund raisers; and the promotion of bicycling and bicycle racing.

In 2004 one half of all team winnings will be donated to BACK ALLEY BIKES, a community bike repair and reuse center located in the Cass Avenue Corridor neighborhood of Detroit, MI, USA. BACK ALLEY BIKES is dedicated to assisting area residents to build and repair bicycles and providing two-wheeled transportation options to neighborhood youth.

We race a full schedule. Last year our team had riders at each of the Michigan Challenge races. We raced throughout the Mid-West, as well as in
Canada. We race cyclo-cross in the fall and mountain bike races when possible. The team is an extension of the Ann Arbor Velo Club (AAVC) and racing is an opportunity to represent the club and our sponsors.
